Women mark Valentines Day with street dance, call for Aquino resignation

Feb. 14, 2015

DAVAO CITY – Thousands of women here joined the worldwide One Billion Rising in time for the Valentines Day Saturday afternoon.

Led by Gabriela Women’s Party, women held a 5-minute flash dance in seven major city intersections including Ulas, Matina Crossing, Ecoland, Bankerohan, Acacia, Magsaysay and Freedom Park around 1:00 pm. They later converged at the Rizal Park.

Gabriela Women’s Party Representative Luzviminda Ilagan said “We rise because we want change and that includes a change in governance.

There should be no stopping women from joining protests to call for President Aquino’s resignation and to install a caretaker transition council that will institute reforms and ensure a new government that will address the people’s demand to end the poverty, impunity and violence in this country.

She added that “the obvious efforts in legislative hearings to shield Aquino and the US government from their involvement in the Mamasapano operation creates a situation of unrest and fuels calls for Aquino to step down.”
