DAVAO CITY – Militant labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno here said they are ready for their protest action on Friday (May 1) as the world commemorates the 129th International Labor Day.
Carlo Olalo, spokesperson of Kilusang Mayo Uno, said they are also commemorating the 35th founding anniversary of KMU.
“Aduna kitay ipahigayong protesta alas 10 sa buntag kauban ang nagkadaiyang mga union nga magpadayag usab sa ilang nagkadaiyang local struggle (We will hold protest actions in the morning together with local unions who will share their struggles),” Olalo said in a press conference on Wednesday.
Olalo said they will also call for the P16,000 national minimum wage and for the scrapping of the government’s contractualization policy as mandated by the Department of Labor and Employment Order 18-A.
Olalo said they are expecting 5,000 workers from the region who will join the labor day rally. Workers will converge in Magsaysay Park and will march to Rizal Park for the program.
