DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Chinese community here said will celebrate its New Year on January 27 “to promote harmonious relationship with the Dabawenyos.”
The China Town Development Office Member Jasper Huang has extended the invitation to all Davao residents to celebrate and welcome the Year of the Rooster. The year of the rooster will officially begin on January 28.
He said a mass would be held at 4:30 p.m in San Pedro church before proceeding to Rizal Park to start the program with music bands, dances, competition and games. They would give “tikoy” to the audience and provide free meals at midnight.
“We assure that this year’s Chinese New year celebration would be fun since we have lots of offering,” Huang said.
The China Town Council has coordinated with the City Tourism Office for the preparation of the event to showcase their culture through a show.
Acting City Tourism Officer, Regina Tecson, said the Chinese community has prepared games for the audience. “There is going to be a hiphop competition with a Chinese element”.
She emphasized that local talents in the city would perform in the event. (davaotoday.com)
