First family planning service center in Compostela Valley launched

DAVAO CITY — The first ever family planning service center has been put up in Compostela Valley especially for couples who have unmet need for family planning, those who want to limit the size of their family and space childbirth.

The center is located at the residence of King of Kings Ministries pastors Ner and Pastora Lenen Papas in Barangay Kingking, Pantukan. The couple will manage the facility and facilitate classes on Responsible Parenting and focus on sharing the technology of the Modern Family Planning Methods; Ovulation or Billings Method; Basal Body Temperature (BBT); Symto-Thermal Methods (STM), and Lactational Amenorrhea (LAM).

According to Emma C. Resurreccion, head of the Population Management Division (PMD), other services offered at the center are counseling on childbirth spacing through natural family planning, achieving children through fertility management/ awareness, value based marital bonding. She added that the center will be under the supervision of both the municipal & provincial health office of the province. The regional offices of City Health Department (CHD) and the Population Commission also committed to support the logistic and technical requirements of the facility.

Gov. Arturo Uy, a strong supporter of programs on reproductive health, earlier announced that couples who wanted to avail of the services of the family planning service center had the right to choose whether artificial or natural family planning method is best for them — under the proper guidance of health workers.

The launch was graced by regional natural family planning coordinator Dr. Raquel Montejo and Popcom director Maduh A. Damsani, and local officials Vice Mayor Hyron Ranain, councilor Dads Johnson, municipal health officer Dr. Nelson Morales, barangay health workers and representative from the Council of Women, Municipal Nutrition Council and religious groups.(ER-PHO/IDS Comval)
