Holy Cross students join calls to stop con-ass, cha-cha

Aug. 04, 2009

DAVAO CITY — Students of Holy Cross of Davao College lighted candles and held a noise barrage outside their campus here to express support and participation in the calls to stop the convening of the House of Representatives into a constituent assembly for charter change.

The activity is spearheaded by social work students and their organization Kaakuhan in cooperation with the Lihok Estudyante ug Kabataan Batok Krisis ug Komersyalisayson (Leksyon).

Kabataan Kontra Cha-Cha and Leksyon are gathering all the reactions and the opinions of the youth regarding charter change. We are happy that students and even those in the communities are very active and supportive of the campaign against cha-cha,” said Myrna Imperial, the spokesperson of Leksyon.

Cai Safar, a social work student said that these actions are motivated by the youth and students desire to shape their future. We hold the future of this nation, we do not favour cha-cha because it is a selfish move by politicians who are desperate to remain in power.

Imperial added that when the people are united in frustrating those who want to extend their tenure, there is a higher level of certainty that there will no Gloria Arroyo in Malacanang beyond 2010.

The candle lighting and noise barrage was held after a forum sponsored by social work students organization Kaakuhan, Leksyon and Kabataan Partylist.
