MANILA, April 18 (PNA) – Government forces on Wednesday morning found the body of United States peace corps volunteer Julia Campbell who had been reported missing since last week in Ifugao province, military officials reported.
Maj. Gen. Rodrigo Maclang, commander of the Armys 8th Infantry Division, said the Campbells body was recovered by Army soldiers participating in an inter-agency effort to search and rescue the American.
(The) dead body of Julia Campbell (was) found by Army troops in Barangay Battad, Banaue at 10:30 this morning, said Maclang, citing sketchy reports from the ground troops. There are no details available (yet), he said.
She was found buried with her feet protruding, said Maclang, adding that more government forces have been sent to the area to extricate the remains of Campbell who authorities said was last seen last April 8.
Armed Forces public information office chief Lt. Col. Bartolome Bacarro confirmed the discovery of Campbells remains. Army search and rescue teams found the body of Ms. Campbell at around 10:30 a.m. at Battad, Bacarro.
Maclang and Bacarro could not immediately say of Campbell suffered injuries that would indicate that she was attacked.
The military has launched ground and aerial search teams to augment efforts by the Philippine National Police, government and non-government rescue workers and representatives of US embassy in locating Campbell.(PNA)
