DAVAO CITY — Banana growers and exporters will be in Davao City anew for the second National Banana Congress this April.
Teddy Marañon, CEO and president of Southern Agro Export Corporation (Sagrex), said the conference will be held at SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang, this city, on April 1-2.
The congress is a biennial event, with the last meeting held in 2013.
Banana growers from all over the country are invited to come and attend the national banana congress to develop knowledge on cultivating banana, one of the country’s top exported agricultural goods, said Marañon.
“We have a lot of educational program seminars on how to grow banana and become a millionaire,” he said.
Rene Calayon, committee member of the National Banana Congress, said that they also hope to address the problems faced by the country’s banana, especially the El Niño phenomenon.
“We will be inviting different speakers from different department or agencies of the government,” Calayon said.
Davao is a strategic location for the congress as it is situated in Mindanao, the top producer of export-quality bananas in the Philippine. In 2015, the island had a 37.91 percent share of the total volume of production of bananas country-wide. (davaotoday.com)
