TAGUM CITY, Philippines — Local disaster units in the provinces of Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley provinces are closely monitoring the intermittent rains brought upon by the low pressure area.
In a Philippine Information Agency dispatch Tuesday, Davao del Norte PDDRMO officer-in-charge Glenda Deli-deli said that an alert was raised in areas that were usually flooded after the Saug and Liboganon rivers swelled brought by heavy rains.
For his part, Davao del Norte PDRRMO Planning, Research and Early Warning Section Head, Eric Rosillo said residents of Kapalong and Talaingod, especially those living along the riverbanks were warned of the possible preemptive evacuation should the waters hit a critical level.
In Compostela Valley province, the local Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office in various towns were activated, according to Compostela Valley PDRRMO Raul Villocino.
A landslide was reported along the roads connecting Maragusan (Compostela Valley) and Mati City (Davao Oriental), but based on accounts of Maragusan MDRRMO, the affected portion was outside the boundary of Compostela Valley.
He added that 30 families of 112 individuals in Barangay Magsaysay in the municipality of Nabunturan were evacuated on January 1. On December 2, a pre-emptive evacuation was conducted in Barangay Banag-banag in the municipality of Montevista.
The PAGASA weather forecast as of 5 p.m. Tuesday said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of Mindanao. (davaotoday.com)
