DAVA0 CITY — Fire from an office building along a commercial block in Bolton Street here Thursday night caused panic among workers and passersby.
No casualties were reported on the incident, which started at the office of Jollibee Foods around 6:45 pm in the building owned by the Filipino-Chinese Cultural Association.
Senior Fire Officer Jose Puerto of Bangoy Fire Station said the fire started at the layout artist room. Their initial investigation showed the cause of fire could be from short circuit or overheating of equipment.
Puerto said office equipment such as computers and a photocopier machine were destroyed in the fire.
He added that they were able to contain the fire in 30 minutes, which did not spread out to nearby buildings that were protected by firewalls.
Puerto said they will continue their probe with the Jollibee staff on what really caused the fire.
“We inspected these buildings regularly to see that they comply with putting up firewalls and other measures” Puerto said.
The fire triggered panic from people in other establishments in the busy commercial block, as owners immediately evacuated employees and customers and closed down their stores.
The building also housed Meister Bakeshop and the office of the Fil-Chi Cultural Association. No damages were reported in these establishments.
