DAVAO CITY – All you need is a smartphone and an internet connection to be able to watch President-elect Duterte’s inauguration on June 30.

According to Ernie Abella, the incoming Presidential spokesperson Facebook has offered to stream live the inauguration of Duterte.

Abella told reporters here on Wednesday, June 22 that Facebook Asia Pacific representative, Elizabeth Hernandez flew in from Singapore and discussed with them Tuesday night, June 21 the possibility of using Facebook platform to air the inauguration program.

“They offered to stream live the inauguration. So it’s going to be an interesting development. It would be easily accessed especially by overseas Filipino works all over the world,” Abella said.

Presidential  Communication Secretary-designate Martin Andanar, said the internet speed in the country would be quite difficult to predict, but the streaming of the inauguration on Facebook is mainly for those who don’t have access to television and radio in the Philippines.

“That’s the reason why it’s being streamed,” he said.

Limited media

Andanar  said that all the broadcasting companies will also be covering the event.

“Those who do not have access inside the Palace halls or inside the Rizal Hall will be able to access content from RTVM and Channel 4. In other words you will be hooking up,” Andanar said.

Only the People’s Television channel 4 (PTV 4) and the Radio Television Malacañang will be allowed inside the hall.

Andanar said they decided to limit the coverage to the state-run media because of the small space. He added that  the RTVM was efficient in covering the Philippines’ hosting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in November and the visit of Pope Francis in January, both events happened last year.

Andanar said there will be 14 cameras which “should be enough to cover all angles.”

He said the coverage will be sufficient to cover the entire country.

Guest list

Meanwhile, Andanar said he does not have a copy yet of the list of visitors attending the inauguration.  He said he also cannot confirm who among Duterte’s family members will be standing beside him during his oath taking. A total of 627 visitors so far have been included in the guest list.

Andanar also said he does not know when the final copy of the guest list will be out.

Andanar said after his inauguration Duterte will administer the mass oath taking of the cabinet members. Duterte will also have a meeting with the members of the diplomatic corps and he will be assisted by the foreign affairs secretary.

Simple menu

He also reiterated that the menu will be simple.

“Don’t expect a champagne popping, don’t expect a caviar or cheese, blue cheese,” he said, adding that Dutere “is a simple man”. (davaotoday.com)
