DAVAO CITYCaptured soldier Vicente Cammayo assured his wife and family he is “treated well” in a video sent by Communist New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas to the media on Sunday, almost a month after his capture in a Monkayo village.
Cammayo, the commander of the 11th Company of the 3rd Special Forces Battalion, also said in the video he was not wounded and that he surrendered to the NPA in an encounter in sitio Amagase of Monkayo town’s barangay Casoon in Compostela Valley province.
Rigoberto Sanchez, spokesperson of the Merardo Arce Command, said Cammayo led a brigade in an operation in Monkayo when he was ambushed by the rebels.
The NPA’s Alejandro Lanaja Command claimed to have seized a M60 machine gun and three other high-powered rifles during the ambush, which killed three soldiers and wounded others in Cammayo’s team.
Sanchez said Cammayo and Eduardo C. Tumol of the 1105th Provincial Mobile Group of the Philippine National Police, captured two days earlier, are now being “investigated” for possible crimes against human rights and the international humanitarian law. (davaotoday.com)
