KAPATAGAN, Lanao del Norte Lanao’s most influential political clan the Dimaporos has thrown its full support behind Team Unity senatorial candidates as the TU ended its final swing to Mindanao a week before Election Day.
After barnstorming major cities and provinces in Mindanao, Team Unity candidates returned to Manila bringing with them the pledges and commitments of local officials for a 12-0 victory for the administration ticket in the May 14 mid-term elections.
One province in Mindanao where Team Unity is expected to net a complete shutout of the Genuine Opposition is Lanao del Norte, known as the Dimaporo country controlled by one of the most influential political families in Mindanao.
Led by its patriarch, Lanao del Norte 1st District Rep. Bobby Dimaporo, the family vowed to deliver the votes for the entire TU slate.
In the final rally here before the weekend, an overflow crowd of supporters and residents spilled over the Kapatagan Gym as Rep. Dimaporo and his wife, incumbent Governor Angging Dimaporo, called on the people to vote straight Team Unity.
“Magiging patuloy ang pag-unlad ng ating lalawigan kung makukuha ng Team Unity ang mayorya ng Senado. At yan ay posible lamang kung iboboto natin ng straight ang Team Unity,” Dimaporo told the cheering crowd.
He also urged barangay leaders to campaign for the administration bets to ensure the victory of the administration candidates who will work with President Arroyo in continuing the government program of developing Mindanao and sustaining the economic growth of the country.
The Dimaporos presented to their constituents the Team Unity bets led by Mindanaoans Sultan Jamalul Kiram, Prospero Pichay, Migz Zubiri and their team mates Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Joker Arroyo, Ed Angara, Vic Magsaysay, Ralph Recto and Mike Defensor. The other candidates are Tessie Aquino-Oreta, Luis “Chavit” Singson and Cesar Montano.
During the well-attended rally, the local leaders also proclaimed the entire ticket of Dimaporo’s young son, Kalid, who is seeking the province’s gubernatorial post to be vacated by his mother, Angging.
“Ang buong tiket namin ay kumikilos upang masigurado ang panalo ng Team Unity dito sa Lanao,” the elder Dimaporo said.
Angging Dimaporo is now seeking the province’s second-district congressional seat. She echoed her husband’s promise, committing to help all Team Unity candidates win in next week’s elections.###
