DAVAO CITY — The city council passed a resolution to honor outgoing city mayor and President-elect Rodrigo Duterte’s two decades of service, during the last day of the 17th City Council’s regular session Tuesday, June 28.
Majority floor leader Councilor Bernard Al-ag gave the plaque of recognition to City Administrator Melchor Quitain.
“He inspired us in the past two decades. He brought back the trust of the public to the government; he imposed peace and order in our city, and he transformed the city with a strong and excellent leadership,” Al-ag said.
The Council resolution also commended the President-elect “for his dedication, enthusiasm and outstanding public service given to the City.”
Duterte is among the longest serving mayors in the country. He was first elected as city mayor in 1988.
“He turned Davao City into, what tourism organization describes, as the most peaceful city in Southeast Asia and ranks as one of the safest city in the worlds,” Al-ag said.
The resolution was approved unanimously by the 17th city council.(davaotoday.com)
