I haven’t been offered but I am willing to take the responsibility if it is given to me, Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario said when asked to confirm speculations that he had been offered the chairmanship of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) vacated by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte early this year.
Local papers reported Davao del Sur governor Douglas Cagas to be saying the same.
Del Rosario, Cagas and Compostela Valley governor Arturo Chiongkee Uy had asked Duterte to reconsider his decision right after Duterte announced his resignation as RPOC chair in January this year.
But Duterte said that his resignation was irrevocable, even suggesting that the next RPOC chair should be taken from among the governors in the region.
In an interview with Davao Today, Tagum Mayor Rey Uy said the position was not yet offered to him but he would only accept it if it came with a substantial budget.
The RPOC coordinates government efforts against lawlessness, criminality and terrorism in the region.
The position is still open and there has not been any indication as to who President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will appoint as the new RPOC chairperson. (with reports from PIA)
