DAVAO CITY — Two unidentified men riding in tandem threw a grenade on the vehicle of a local village official in Calinan district here on Thursday afternoon, July 28. The grenade exploded injuring three bystanders and two village officials.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Senior Inspector Catherine dela Rey said that the target of the suspects is Barangay Lamanan Captain Nicanor Pepito who was boarding his vehicle along with his staff.
Dela Rey said that Pepito picked-up and threw the grenade outside the vehicle “before it exploded on the road resulting to five people injured.”
“Pagkabalo sa mga kauban sa Kapitan, nangambak sila sa sakyanan so pagboto sa Granada sa gawas naapil sila sa ka injured kauban ang three ka bystander (When the staff of the Captain knew that there was a grenade, they jumped outside the vehicle. When it exploded outside, they were included in the explosion and were injured together with three bystanders),” Dela Rey said.
The injured victims of the grenade explosion are:
1. Argie Seniel Balele, 29 years old, married and the treasurer of Barangay Lamanan;
2. Jayson Ambon Agiw, 20 years old, single and a resident of Purok 6 Balengaeng, Tugbok District;
3. Jose Martel Entero, 44 years old, resident of Manabulan, Toril;
4. Juveto Cozepiriano, 30 years old, resident of Balengaeng, Tugbok; and
5. Antonio Felix Jarantilla, 35 years old, Barangay Tanod of Barangay Lamanan.
Dela Rey said that the victims were rushed by 911 to Brokenshire Hospital.
The police are still conducting an investigation to determine the motive and the identity of the suspects.
Meanwhile, City Mayor Sara Duterte said the incident was “purely isolated.”
“Rest assured, the police is on top of this isolated incident. And we reassure everybody that there is no reason to worry about the security in Davao City,” she said. (davaotoday.com)
