TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, Philippines – The newly installed mayor here bared his 10-point program dubbed “Eagle Wings,” which will focus on education, employment, agriculture, peace and security, livelihood and tourism, economy and affordability of taxes, wellness, NGO (non-government organization) empowerment, good governance and social services.
“I pledge this administration to be at your service; that we, together with the members of this Council, shall extend the protection and the services of the local government to everyone, fairly and impartially—to the rich and the poor, the learned and the unlettered,” Mayor Allan Rellon said before local lawmakers during Thursday’s 6th City Council inaugural session.
The city’s chief executive was invited to present his political and legislative priorities and, in turn, asked the support of the city council to help him implement his program “for the continuous development” of the city.
He said he will give full assistance to the “poor but deserving students,” noting that education is a right and must be equally accessed by all Tagumeños. He also promised to push for the immediate reforms on programs related to Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment as he vowed to boost the city’s tourism programs through the promotion of livelihood services and utilization of modern technology.
Rellon stressed that his executive department will work hand-in-hand with the legislative department under the leadership of Vice Mayor Geterito Gementiza, for them “to deliver effectively the social programs and services for the people of Tagum.”
As what he promised during his candidacy, Rellon told the City Councilors of his plan to push for the amendment of the controversial Real Property Tax which earned “mass disapproval” from the taxpayers, especially from the business sector.
He also plans to revive the regulatory board under the Economic Enterprise Office including the creation of an office that will handle all the concerns and affairs of the NGOs and government organizations, and the city’s senior citizens.
“My administration will continue to work for the development of the City of Tagum. If we join our hands and trek one direction, surely, all of us will be able to implement our programs and services for the benefit of all Tagumeños whom we are called to serve,” Rellon said. (Mart D.
