Members of the Promotion of Church People’s Response and a Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines officer urged today the resignation of President Benigno Aquino III as the “public trust” for the president is gone.
Reverend Mari Sol Villalon, PCPR chairperson, said the president is “lying from both sides of his mouth” to avoid responsibility on the Mamasapano incident.
“The people see clearly that he made very bad decisions that cost the lives of many Filipinos. Our hearts are still heavy, especially for the blocking force from the 55th Special Action Company PNP-SAF. These brave, young men followed orders ‘from above’ and found themselves abandoned in a cornfield; yet, their highest official has acted like a coward, hiding and denying the truth of what happened,” Villalon said.
Reverend Jerome Baris of PCPR also said the president’s “unwillingness to accept responsibility” has eroded public trust.
Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines chair on the Permanent Committee on Public Affairs, Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo, also called the President’s leadership as “lame-duck”.
“His [PNoy’s] is a lame-duck leadership. He is losing influence … Filipinos no longer believe him,” Bishop Pabillo told Church-run Radyo Veritas in an interview.
