DAVAO CITY – Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has already come up with a back-up plan should the Commission on Audit disallow him to give P1 million from the government fund to the families of the 44 Special Action Force commandos killed in the Mamasapano encounter on January 25.
Duterte said it will only take four persons from the private sector to raise the P1 million target assistance fund.
“From what I’ve heard the COA does not allow to give funds from the LGU,” Duterte said during his weekly program on Sunday.
“You know these guys died for the country. Why is it unlawful to give to the foundation?” Duterte said saying the local government of Davao shells out fund for the victims of typhoons in other provinces.
“But if the COA prohibits it, I can raise the money easily,” Duterte said.
Duterte clarified that the assistance fund from the private sector which will be channeled through him will become a public fund “because it is intended for the foundation.”
