Sex education to be integrated in school curriculum, with emphasis on the spiritual aspect of it, says Kadon
DAVAO CITY — Theres a light at the end of the tunnel as far as the perennial problem of lack of school buildings and textbooks are concerned.
Diamar Kadon of the DepEd in Region 11 expressed this optimism Friday as he thanked the business sector for helping them make the program Dekada Eskuela true to its tenets.
Speaking before the 547th Davao Christian Leaders (DCL) Breakfast Fellowship at the Grand Men Seng Hotel, Kadon admitted having to go through the same problems all over again but the assistance of the business sector and the Local School Board has strengthened multisectoral partnerships in the area of education.
He also said that the city government, through the Local School Board, has not been remiss in its duty, with Mayor Rodrigo Duterte readying some 50-million peso worth of infrastructure for the purpose.
Education is not just the concern of the educators but by everybody in the community, Kadon said in explaining Dekada Eskuela.
Answering questions in the open forum, Kadon also defended the move by the Department of Education particularly in the integration to the curriculum of one controversial issue, sex education.
We will educate our children on certain basic ideas of sex before they themselves get the wrong notions from their peers, classmates and other incorrect sources of information, he said.
He proposed that the integration of sex education in the curriculum must be inculcated in our children with more insights about the spiritual aspect. It is time for our young to know the solemnity and ideals of sex and marriage by integrating sex education in our subjects, Kadon said. (Romy Sabaldan/Philippine Information Agency)
