DAVAO CITY – Couple Masiad Obo and Dolmina Obo of the Kalagan tribe have been living together for 40 years before they decided to get married during the Kasalang Barangay held at the Davao City Recreation Center on Friday afternoon.
Dolmina said they already have eight kids who now all have families of their own.
The Civil Registrar’s Office sponsored the mass wedding of 73 couples. Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte officiated the rites.
Leslie Lagare, Registration Officer 4 of the CCRO, said the Kasalang Barangay included two barangays in the third district and four barangays in the first district.
“There are two barangays in Third District – Toril Proper and Gumalang and in the First District we have couples from Barangays 7-A, 6-A, 8-A and 5-A,” Lagare said in an interview.
Lagare said the couples who availed of the Kasalang Barangay do not have to pay the local fees for license and marriage contract application.
“But they provide for their own rings and clothes for the wedding,” she said.
Lagare said the couples also bring their own sponsors for the wedding but city councilors and barangay captains who were present “automatically become their ninong and ninang (sponsors).”
