Davao City – Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte announced early this morning the suspension of classes today in all levels as Typhoon Zoraida hits Northern Mindanao and Visayas today.
The Davao City Government”s Facebook posted this announcement :
“Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the suspension of classes today in Davao City in all levels. Although Davao City has not been placed under any storm signal, PAGASA advisories have stated Davao City will be experiencing rains with gusty winds. Please be guided accordingly. Thank you.”
Moderate rain has been pouring in the city since dawn, but there has been no reports of flood.
Local government units in Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley has declared suspension of classes.
In Davao del Norte, some 60 families in Barangays Pandapan and Pagsabangan, Tagum City were preemptively evacuated near low lying areas, as well as in Brgy. Talomo in Sto. Tomas municipality.
Tagum City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council officer Giovanni Rellon told DavaoToday they are monitoring the San Miguel, Pandapan, Bincungan, Cuambogan, and Pagsabangan as river waters may caused flooding to the low-lying areas.
Division of Davao del Norte Education Program Supervisors for Campus Journalism Virginia Perandos and Rebecca Sagot issued the cancellation of Division-wide Elementary and Secondary Schools Press Conference in Carmen scheduled on November 13-15, 2013 at Carmen Municipal Gymnasium.
