DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Commuters and motorists will experience a traffic build-up during night time as the highway along Davao City’s diversion road will be totally closed to the public from 9pm until 5am beginning Monday night, November 6.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Dean I. Ortiz told Davao Today their road clearing operations might go on for the next two to three days or depending on the progress of their operations.
Boulders above the portion of the Carlos P. Garcia-Maa Highway have to be cleared, said Ortiz. It is the same portion where two landslide occurrences have already been reported early October.
“There are still boulders which we have to drop, after which we can assure that the road will be open to the public 24/7,” he said.
Ortiz stressed their priority now “is to clear the area of threats to the recurrence of landslide.”
No more gridlock?
As this develop, the head of the City Transportation and Traffic Management Office warned commuters and motorists of another gridlock which has been recurring for the past few weeks.
To avoid congestion, he said motorists may use roads leading to Quimpo Boulevard from Maa area.
“It’s better now because there was a prior advisory given to motorists, so they will know where to pass to avoid the Diversion road,” Abude said in an interview.
The DPWH advised the public of the road closure Sunday afternoon, November 5. (davaotoday.com)
