DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Bureau of Fire Protection here recorded P11.3 million in damages caused by 52 fire incidents in the city last month,the start of the fire consciousness period.
Davao City Fire District spokesperson Senior Fire Officer (SFO) 2 Ramil Gillado said on Wednesday that out of 52 cases, 20 hit residential areas, 15 in grasslands while the rest occurred in storage, mercantile and business establishments.
The number of fire mishaps increased compare to March last year, which recorded 36 fire incidents amounting to P2.9 million damaged properties and mostly in residential areas.
Gillado also bared that a total of P2.5 million worth of properties were damaged in eight fire incidents during the first three days of this month.
On Tuesday,a fire occured in Matina Aplaya that gutted down 19 structures. Hours later, another fire broke out in Tibungco Public Market where 9 structures were destroyed including eight business establishment and a church amounting to P800,000.
On the same day, 31 market stalls and houses were gutted down in Bankerohan amounting to P500, 000. A store was also razed with an estimated damage of P300,000. The fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
Another fire incident was reported at the Southern Philippines Medical Center after an air conditioning unit overheated.
Gillado urged the public to be vigilant and mindful in using electricity as most of the fire incidents in the city were caused by electric short circuit. (davaotoday.com)
