DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The 5.4-magnitude quake that struck Wao town in Lanao del Sur province on Sunday morning caused 5 cases of minor injuries, totally damaged 4 buildings and partially damaged about 100 houses, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) reported.
The Wao District Hospital evacuated 64 patients during the quake, as shown by photos on MDRRMO’s Facebook page, including shots of cracked windows and flooring, and scattered hospital supplies on the floor. Davao Today learned that as of 6:22 pm the patients are temporarily sheltered in tents outside the hospital.
Francis Garcia, head of the MDRRMO said they are still validating other reports on the damage caused by the series of earthquakes.
The 5.4-magnitude quake in Wao struck at 4:47 am. Intensity 6 was felt in Kalilangan in Bukidnon province, Intensity 5 in Cagayan de Oro City, and Intensity 4 in Pangantucan, Kadingilan, Maramag, Damulog, Quezon, and Don Carlos towns, and Valencia and Malaybalay cities in Bukidnon province.
Intensity 3 was recorded in Kabacan in North Cotabato province, Talakag in Bukidnon and Tagoloan in Misamis Oriental province, while Intensity 2 was felt in Kidapawan City.
The series of quakes had three episodes with more than 4.0 in magnitude, specifically 4.3 magnitude at 5:17 am, 4.2 magnitude at 5:30 am, and 4.0 magnitude at 10:39 am.
As of 4:43 pm today, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded at least 11 tremors, 5 of which are more than 4.0 in magnitude, which occurred in Lanao del Sur. (davaotoday.com)
