DAVAO CITY – An official of the provincial disaster risk reduction management council said Davao del Norte is “upgrading” its campaign on disaster awareness.
Romulo Tagalo, executive director of the Provincial Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CCA-DRRM) Council said the province is implementing the second phase of their Oplan Andam 2 (Advocacy on Natural Disaster Awareness and Management) program starting September 2015.
He said the program will target the coastal areas of the province and will focus on tsunami drill, with orientations on basic life-saving techniques, earthquake drill and critical incident stress debriefing.
Tagalo said their Andam 1 “buoyed Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo Del Rosario to expand its reach to build disaster ready and resilient coastal communities.”
Andam is a Cebuano word for “prepare.”Del Rosario launched the program in 2013.
The program targeted the 64 flood-prone barangays in the province with lectures on first aid, water sanitation and hygiene, river bank protection, bio-gas technology and botanical concoction, and earthquake and fire drills and critical incident stress debriefing. (davaotoday.com)
