TAGUM CITY – Floods worsened in Davao del Norte Sunday even as rains have stopped, as 639 families or 3,090 persons from 13 barangays have evacuated due to swelling rivers.

The Davao del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) said the number of evacuees increased by 49% since 4 pm Saturday. Rains since Monday has caused rivers to swell.

The PRDRRMC attributed the increase due to the flood waters affecting three barangays in Tagum City : San Miguel, Cuambogan, Canocotan.

As of 9 am, Brgy. Pagsabangan in Tagum is no longer passable to light vehicles.

Meanwhile the Compostela Valley PDRRMC reported that the municipality of Montevista in Compostela Valley is now submerged in waist-deep waters while the Montevista to Compostela road is no longer passable as Manat River overflowed this morning.

Comval PDRRMC head Raul Villocino said 43 families from Brgy. New Visayas, Montevista have been evacuated. Also, 12 families in New Bataan municipality have been evacuated.

Rescue operations are ongoing as of 10 am at Brgy. Mesaoy, New Corella, Davao del Norte.

The Davao del Norte PDRRMC gave this list of affected families as of 10 am Sunday:
In Asuncion: Barangay Sagayen: 6 families; Canatan: 100; Sta. Felomina: 100; Cambanogoy:22 families. In New Corella: Barangay Poblacion: 42 families; New Bohol: 30; Mesaoy: 110 and Del Pilar: 5 families. In Kapalong: Barangay Pag-asa: 31 families and Maniki: 6 families In Tagum: San Miguel: 102; Cuambogan: 50; Canocotan: 35 families 639 familes / 3,090 individuals

Municipal and provincial disaster response teams are conducting operations to aid residents from the rising waters.
