DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Davao City, the host of the 2018 Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA) event, has allotted P12 million for the week-long sports activity, a councilor said Tuesday, December 5.
Councilor Pilar Braga said the fund is part of this year’s P136.4-million supplemental budget number 3, which was approved during the council’s session on Tuesday.
Braga explained that the funding will cover all necessary services for athletes and visitors during the week-long DAVRAA event beginning February 18, 2018.
“The City Mayor would like to see to it that Davao City as the host city for this event won’t lose face, and that we can really welcome all our guests and athletes from all over the region,” Braga told a press briefing.
Since the city’s sports complex is yet to be completed, Braga said various events will be conducted in different areas of the city.
These include the newly-inaugurated Olympic-sized rubberized track oval of the University of Mindanao-Matina campus, where the opening and closing ceremonies will be held and the finished portion (Olympic-sized swimming pool) of the Davao City Sports Complex at the University of Mindanao campus.
Hosting of the regional athletics meet will also serve as requisite in hosting Palarong Pambansa, the country’s biggest annual multi-sport event of student-athletes which the city will be hosting in 2019. (davaotoday.com)
