MAITUM, Sarangani, Philippines — Camera club members from the cities of Davao and General Santos shot their way to the top of the “3rd Maitum Photo Safari Photo Contest” last week as a highlight of the town’s annual Binuyugan Festival.
From a field of 124 entries, Camera Club of Davao’s Rene Lumawag and Ferdinand Estrella won the 1st and 2nd prizes, respectively. Jing Velos of Gensan Camera Club was 3rd.
Lumawag’s winning image was “The Bounty”, a picture of children helping their mother dry fish leisurely in summertime.
2nd prize winner Estrella entered “Gateway Extremes”, boys having fun in a river dam.
Velos’ 3rd prize, “Field for Enviro-learning and Fun”, shows farmers threshing rice, a common sight in the municipality’s vast ricefields.
This year’s theme was “Landscape pictures of child-friendly environment.”
The 1st prize was P10,000 and plaque; 2nd prize P6,000 and plaque; and 3rd prize P4,000.
Judging was based on relevance to theme, composition, sharpness, lighting and creativity.
The photo contest was about the rich potentials of Maitum in terms of natural resources, wildlife, culture, investments, and tourism sites.
Previous 1st prize winners Rommel Rebollido, Joe Buenavidez, and Cocoy Sexcion were among the judges.
