DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Tagum City will aspire to earn the distinction as a “City of People” as it pursues infrastructure development, road improvement and holding of colourful festivals.
At today’s Kapehan sa Apo View Hotel here, Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon said that with all the city’s progress throughout the years, he hopes for the city to be known as a city dedicated to the people.
“It’s a City of People because the city intends to cater the various interests of the people. Tagum City is known to be City of Festivals, Palm City Capital of the Philippines, Music Capital of the South and Home of the Biggest Cathedral and largest rosary.We’re packaging it into one,” he said.
Rellon also mentioned the popular tourist spots located at the heart of the city including the new Tagum City Hall noted for its unique architectural design and as most modern city hall in the country.
He said the Davao del Norte Sports Complex located in the city is one of the best sports complex in Asia.
Owned by the province, the complex has hosted several local and national games and helped increase business and tourism activities in the city.
The city also offers many tourist spots “for people who want to connect with nature and relax,” he added.
“Tagum takes pride in its various gardens and parks such as the Botanical Garden, Energy Park and a new developing Bird Park. It is important for everyone to work as one for the benefit of the whole city,” he said.
He said it was important to get the help of the majority “to enable the city accomplish innovations and implement programs on time.”
“This is the reason why the city has garnered numerous awards and citations,” he said.
Even if the city’s population is only at 259,000, he said that “businessmen are still interested in investing because the place is strategic, accessible and has trustworthy leaders”.
“I’m happy that as mayor of Tagum, I hear positive impressions from the public and at least I have contributions to the local development of our region,” he said. (davaotoday.com)
