DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Three government workers here were removed from service for using illegal drugs, a city official said Thursday, November 9.
In a statement released to reporters, Michael Denton Aportadera, action officer of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) said the three employees tested positive for using illegal drugs after a mandatory random testing conducted by the city government last month.
“We did the confirmatory test for the three employees after they tested positive, and it turned out that there were indeed traces of illegal substances in the urine samples submitted for the test,” he said.
Aportadera did not name the City Hall employees but said they were among the 1,127 government workers who have undergone random drug test. Aportadera said the city will hold more random drug tests to cover 12,000 employees of the city government.
Under Civil Service Commission (CSC) Circular no. 13, government employees, whether they hold plantilla or job order positions, have to undergo the mandatory random drug test.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio reiterated her warning to city government workers that they will be either terminated or subjected to rehabilitation if found using illegal drugs. Duterte-Carpio tested negative for drug use during a mandatory drug test held last October 10. (davaotoday.com)
